Orthotics can correct numerous conditions of the feet. The most common biomechanical characteristics are Overpronation and Underpronation. Overpronation is much more common and is characterized by an excessive rolling inward of the foot and ankle, most often the arches are flatter. Conversely Underpronators have a more rigid foot and stay to the outside of their foot. Both gait patterns can cause problems for the competitive runner.
